A Little About Apple Pay Now

Apple Pay is an Apple Inc. mobile payment system and digital wallet service that allows people to make transactions in person, in iOS applications, and on the web via Safari (A browser developed by apple).

It is compatible with the iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, and Macbook.

This feature is not supported on any user’s device that is not manufactured and distributed by Apple (in simple words, it can’t be accessed on any Android device, nor any other browser running on Windows).

It digitizes and can substitute a contactless debit or credit card chip and PIN transaction at any point-of-sale terminal. This also does not demand the use of Apple Pay-specific contactless payment stations; it can also be used with any retailer that accepts contactless payments.

Apple requires two-step verification using Touch ID, PIN, Face ID, or passcode. Devices use near field communication (NFC) to wirelessly interface with point-of-sale systems, an embedded secure element (eSE) to safely maintain payment data and execute cryptographic operations, and Apple’s Touch ID and Face ID for user identification.

Dollar General And Apple Pay

Apple Pay is among the easiest methods of payment since it enables you to pay by just touching your iPhone and walking away. However, Apple Pay is not accepted by every business.

So, being one of the largest retail chains in the United States, does Dollar General take Apple Pay?

Below mentioned are some facts we discovered regarding Dollar General and Apple Pay:

Does Dollar General Take Apple Pay?

Unfortunately, Apple Pay is not one of the payment options accepted by Dollar General. Even though there was some suspicion that Dollar General might begin integrating NFC technology in its stores to support Apple Pay, the company never followed through on its promises.

In July 2020, the company tweeted that some of their stores had been modified to incorporate Apple Pay functionality. However, they then reversed this statement and stated that there were no intentions to bring Apple Pay into their stores.

Does Dollar General Take Other Digital Payments?

The answer to this question is yes. Dollar General boasts its smartphone application, DG Go, which enables users to scan products while they shop and pay with your smartphone when you’re done.

However, only a limited number of establishments accept DG Go transactions, so verify to see if your local store accepts them.

Aside from DG Go, Dollar General does not provide any other smartphone payment methods, like Google Pay and Samsung Pay. Moreover, Dollar General does not support PayPal as a payment options in-store or on their site.

How to use DG Go at dollar general?

Follow these easy steps to pay with your phone at Dollar General:

  • Install the DG Go application from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.
  • Check the app’s store locator to see if your local store accepts DG Go payments; if not, you’ll need to go to another shop that does.
  • Proceed to pay using your phone.
  • Add a mode of payment like a credit or debit card, gift card, or banking information.
  • Look for any digital vouchers and save them to your application before going to your store.
  • Scanning the barcode that shows on the checkout tablet with the application will complete your payment and provide you with an electronic receipt right away.

Why Does Dollar General Not Take Apple Pay?

Some businesses are integrating NFC technology in their storefronts, while others have yet to make the switch.

Because Apple Pay employs NFC, or near-field connectivity, technology, businesses that lack these terminals will be unable to take Apple Pay as a mode of payment.

Dollar General has a few reasons for not making the change yet.

Some of them are mentioned below:

No interest

Dollar General is the type of business where people go when they need cheap groceries and other items. It appeals to people with a specific household income, but it is not limited to them.

However, because the majority of their customers are bargain shoppers, not everyone owns an iPhone or an Apple Watch.

Dollar General has no motive to deploy NFC terminals because a major percentage of their customer base is uninterested in Apple Pay. It’s not worth the money to install them.

If enough customers demand Apple Pay in Dollar General outlets, the company may start to take action.

The presence of DG Go

Dollar General’s exclusive contactless digital wallet is known as DG GO. It enables you to scan goods while shopping. You can pay for your purchases with your mobile phone once you’ve finished shopping. Its goal is to make shopping and checkout faster and easier.

Dollar General does not want its customers to use the competitor’s application because they want them to utilize their application rather than another company’s application.

Implementing Apple Pay in their business would drive customers away from their application. This implies they’ll have to pay certain fees to the card companies via Apple. If they can retain their consumers on their application, they will have to pay fewer or lower costs.

When they’re attempting to get their consumers to use DG GO instead of Apple Pay, not accepting Apple Pay in their businesses makes business sense.

Other Payment Methods Accepted At Dollar General

Although Dollar General does not accept Apple Pay, it does accept a variety of alternative payment methods.

At the store, you can pay with cash or personal checks.

They take major credit cards as well, including:

  • MasterCard
  • American Express
  • Discover
